The Spi-Automated Busing System is a feature-rich automated station that measures, cuts, positions and inductively solders bus ribbon to photovoltaic modules. The system operates as an inline process station which solders bus ribbons to solar cell strings to form a completely interconnected module without operator interaction.
One station accommodates up to 50MW of photovoltaic module manufacturing per year. Solar modules are supplied sequentially to the system on a conveyor with the cells face down.
The first stage of the robotic process involves cutting pre-tinned bus ribbon to length and placing each bus bar into a designated bin. The second stage robotics retrieve and precisely place each bus bar in accordance with the module design.
Prior to soldering, an output insulation strip is placed in between the EVA and interconnect ribbon. Finally, a reflow soldering operation is performed to attach the bus bars to the module.
The 0.1 mm positioning repeatability of the six-axis robots ensures application precision and exceptional busing repeatability. Each robot includes a collision detection feature that helps to avoid costly damage.
